Sixth Graders Design and Build Models of a Space Station

Image
Sixth Graders Design and Build Models of a Space Station Our sixth grade class learned about the challenges faced by astronauts on a long mission. They designed a space capsule and built a 3D model. They wrote a brochure to show the features of their designs. Each group brought in different materials to work with so the final products all looked very different.

Eighth Grade: Using Distance and Time Data to Calculate Speed

Image
The Eighth Graders set up tracks so that they could measure the time that it took for a ball to go 1 meter. They used the information to calculate the speed of the ball. At the beginning of the track they made a ramp supported by a stack of books. The higher the ramp, the faster the speed!

Robotics Club Virtual Visit of Amazon

Image
Our Robotics Club is made up of students from the seventh and eighth grades. Here are members of the team with our competition board. The robot does tasks on this playing field. We took a virtual tour of an Amazon Warehouse to research the theme from our competition, Cargo Connect. We are learning more about logistics this season!

Seventh: Homeostasis Lab

Image
Homeostasis Lab The Seventh Graders measured their vital signs before, during and after exercise. First, we listened to a presentation by the school nurse to learn how to take the measurements and what they mean. The vital signs we used were: face color, temperature, pulse, breathing rate, and perspiration levels.

Eighth Grade Marble Roller Coasters

Image
Marble Roller Coaster The eighth graders are learning how to quantify motion. They made marble tracks out of foam, cardboard tubes, and lots of tape. After they made the physical roller coaster, each student drew a model of the track. On the model they looked for all the places where the motion of the marble changed. Sometimes it went faster, slower, turned left or turned right.

Seventh Grade: Classifying Shells

Classifying Shells  In seventh grade, we are beginning our study of biology. There is so much variety to our collection of shells. Students decided how to separate the shells into two groups and then again into four groups. Each group had different ideas about which categories to use.
